Some months ago we found at about 500 photos related to the First World War in a travel case completely forgotten in one of the many rooms of the St. Francis Monastery (Igreja São Francisco) in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Nobody remembers who could have organized all this photos and newspaper records in that large book. Was there a friar who participated that war or his father, uncle? Nobody imagines what could have motivated any friar to create this collection.
Nobody knows if there is any historic worth in that pictures. In case of any interest, feel free to contact me:
I have scanned all of them and categorized in the following ten chapters all are links to the related page:
|War Prisoners||Wounded and Health Care||Landscapes, Cities and single Houses||War Equipment||Monuments, War Cemeteries|
|Destruction (Landscapes, Cities, single Houses)||Famous War related Persons||Soldiers||Civilians||Some non categorized Pictures|
Some photos have German comments, some Portuguese. All texts – also published – are written in German.
Hope, this content may help somebody; anyway, we’ve created a little virtual memorial for this forgotten Franciscan friar!
